Service Projects 2018

Bi-Lingo Donation

$500.00 Donation to the Central Coast Literacy Council to continue our pilot project Bi-Lingo !

Bi-Lingo is a partnership between the Central Coast Literacy Council , Smv Rotaract and the Santa Maria Public Library. The purpose of this project is to provide a learning resource for the community and to help bridge the language barrier between only Spanish speaking and only English speaking community members. Participants will have an opportunity to practice vocabulary and develop their conversational skills in a social setting.

We are excited to see the project continue for the next 6 months!

Donation to Youth Led Service Project

Part of giving back to our community is to support the future leaders of our community.
Young Joseph Andrade, a Boy Scout with Orcutt Troop 95 is currently working on an Eagle Scout Project to put together a library for the residents of  Harvest Community Center.

The library will serve children in Santa Maria aged 3-13. Joseph understands the importance of a quiet place to read a good book and have literacy skills that are key to education. In our efforts to help Joseph , SMV Rotaract donated $100.00 towards the library. We can’t wait to see his project come to life.

For more information on this project please contact Joseph Andrade

Supporting Local Rotary Clubs and our district!

SMV Rotaractors supporting the fundraising efforts of local Rotary Clubs to give back to our local and global community. We are happy to share that both events were a huge success!

2018 Rotary Foundation Fiesta
Each year, our Rotary District holds a dinner to celebrate The Rotary Foundation, including acknowledging donors from the clubs and raising funds for TRF for service projects around the world including the eradication of Polio. This year’s  keynote speaker Craig Needham gave a presentation about what it was like being raised by his mother who was a polio victim and confined to an iron lung.  “Looking Up: Being Raised by a Mom in an Iron Lung”

2018 Rotary Luau and Barn Party
The Santa Maria Breakfast Rotary’s annual Luau and Barn Party has become the must-attend event in Santa Maria! We enjoyed amazing food, beverages, music, gaming tables, incredible silent and live auction items, and the funnest people you’ll ever meet. The funds raised all go to support local charities

United Way Stuff the Bus Event

United Way is partnered with Walmart, KSBY, Santa Maria-Bonita School District and the Lompoc Unified School District along with local businesses and organizations to coordinate Stuff the Bus, a program that provides under-resourced children with new school supplies to assist them with their studies and help build self-esteem. We were really excited to participate !
